The Strategy for Patient Oriented Research (SPOR) is a pan-Canadian initiative established by the Canadian Institute for Health Research (CIHR), the goal of which is to engage patients, caregivers, and families as partners in the research process. This is referred to as patient Oriented Research. The Newfoundland and Labrador’s Support for People and Patient-Oriented Research and Trials Unit (NL SUPPORT), which was established through funding from CIHR and the NL Government, is the provincial SUPPORT Unit.
NL SUPPORT offers knowledge brokering and expertise to create a culture of patient-oriented research in Newfoundland and Labrador. NL SUPPORT deploys resources, in terms of expertise and training, on patient-oriented research, patient engagement, knowledge translation and research methodologies. The services provided by NL SUPPORT enable this network to contribute to the development of a patient-centered research culture in Newfoundland and Labrador. The NL SUPPORT team includes the Quality-of-Care NL (QCNL) research and evaluation program and the supporting infrastructure of the Centre for Analytics, Informatics and Research (CAIR).
