Nataly Espinoza Suarez: Communication in cancer pain care

Congratulations to Nataly Espinoza Suarez, our CPCRN Fellow, for her participation in a new scoping review focused on the role of communication in the recognition, meaning, and management of cancer-related pain care.

The article analyzes how communication that is driven by compassion, empathy, and collaboration can help with building trust, supporting understanding of what people living with cancer-related pain actually experience, and facilitate shared decision-making with healthcare professionals. The authors also introduce the W.O.R.D.S. framework proposed as a more humanistic approach to communication in cancer pain care.
